Bill has moved the Trinity River Project closer to completion

August 10, 2010

As a result of heroic efforts by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, a recently passed amendment to an appropriations bill has moved the Trinity River Project closer to completion:

A. The amendment exempts the Corps from having to complete the historical analysis of the levees and other components of the Dallas Floodway Levee System. This allows immediate progress to occur on the 100 year levee remediation items and further addresses on-going work with respect to the Dallas Floodway Project.

B. The amendment causes the Federal Highway Administration to continue the 106 review (identify and classify potential historical resources in and along the Trinity River in Dallas and consult with the Texas Historical Commission) but FHWA will not have to go through the 4(f) process which could have proved problematic due to the potential impacts to a historical resource such as the levees or other components. This applies not only to the Trinity Parkway but also to the Sylvan Avenue Bridge, and the Margaret McDermott Bridge.

Please take time to send Senator Hutchison (10440 N. Central Suite 1160, Dallas 75231) and Congresswoman Johnson (3102 Maple Suite 600, Dallas 75201) a note expressing your appreciation.

We Love DFW and look forward to this Projects completion.
KirksFriendsDFW Thanks Kay Bailey Hutchison & Eddie Bernice Johnson's efforts!
