Bill has moved the Trinity River Project closer to completion
August 10, 2010
As a result of heroic efforts by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, a recently passed amendment to an appropriations bill has moved the Trinity River Project closer to completion:
A. The amendment exempts the Corps from having to complete the historical analysis of the levees and other components of the Dallas Floodway Levee System. This allows immediate progress to occur on the 100 year levee remediation items and further addresses on-going work with respect to the Dallas Floodway Project.
B. The amendment causes the Federal Highway Administration to continue the 106 review (identify and classify potential historical resources in and along the Trinity River in Dallas and consult with the Texas Historical Commission) but FHWA will not have to go through the 4(f) process which could have proved problematic due to the potential impacts to a historical resource such as the levees or other components. This applies not only to the Trinity Parkway but also to the Sylvan Avenue Bridge, and the Margaret McDermott Bridge.
Please take time to send Senator Hutchison (10440 N. Central Suite 1160, Dallas 75231) and Congresswoman Johnson (3102 Maple Suite 600, Dallas 75201) a note expressing your appreciation.
We Love DFW and look forward to this Projects completion.

Phil Mickelson Gives San Diego Kids a Smart Start Source: Phil Mickelson Gives San Diego Kids a Smart Start | NBC San Diego
Pro-golfer Phil Mickelson and his wife Amy made sure 1500 San Diego County kids start the new school year off on the right foot.
On Saturday, the Mickelsons held their 6th annual Smart Start shopping party at the Wal-Mart in Murphy Canyon.
Mickelson says he and his family are just happy to help out and get the kids excited for the coming school year.
"[We] get them new pairs of pants and shirts and shoes and school supplies, socks, underwear the whole works, so that they start the school year feeling confident and hopefully with a higher self esteem," Mickelson said.
The Mickelsons foot the bill for all of the supplies, including the 50 to 60 buses to that brought the kids to the event.
Mickelson's sponsor, KPMG provided each child with a Dr. Seuss book.
"My wife and I do it because it is fun. It is fun for us to be a part of this, to see the looks on the kids faces," Mickelson said.

Mary Kay among companies honored with first ever “Do Good” stamp from Ladies’ Home Journal
Dallas, March 16, 2010 – Mary Kay received the first ever “Do Good” stamp from Ladies’ Home Journal. The “Do Good” stamp was created by the magazine to recognize companies that contribute to making the world a better place. Donating just under $3 million USD from the 2008 and 2009 worldwide sale of Beauty That Counts™ Creme Lipsticks to causes that change the lives of women and children around the world, including the prevention of domestic violence
“As an organization, we firmly believe that we can help change the lives of women and children around the world,” said Anne Crews, Mary Kay Inc. vice president of government relations and board member for The Mary Kay Foundation. “Our company was founded on the principle of doing well by doing good and we’re pleased to do our part by giving back.
